About Butterfly Audiology
Butterfly Audiology was established in 2003 by Bendigo locals, Dan and Danielle Bowles. We are proudly independent and have clinics in Bendigo, Castlemaine, Kyneton and Gisborne.
Our experienced and dedicated staff ensure every client receives individual treatment and continuity of care from the moment they contact us to managing their ongoing hearing needs. We use the latest hearing aid technology from the world’s leading hearing aid manufacturers and our Audiologists do not receive commissions based on hearing aid sales. We take pride in being able to assist our local community to improve their hearing.
We welcome all clients from Private, Pensioners, DVA Card Holders, and Children (over 4 years) to WorkCover claimants.
Butterfly Audiology’s Audiologists are all full members of Audiology Australia and follow the Professional Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
What to Expect
Butterfly Audiology perform hearing assessments for adults and children (aged 4 years and over) and hearing aid fittings for adults over 26 years. Our Audiologists ensure that every person feels relaxed and comfortable, allowing accurate results to be obtained. A doctor’s referral is not needed, however, if you have one it will allow you to claim part of the initial consultation fee back on Medicare. If you are a Pensioner or DVA Cardholder, you can access the Hearing Services Program to cover your fees.
Adults
Adults can expect a full hearing assessment to be performed. This involves firstly responding to a series of beeps. We then assess if you have difficulty hearing speech in noise and in quiet surroundings. We also check if you have any fluid or congestion in your ears that requires medical treatment. The Audiologist will explain the results, refer you to your doctor if this is indicated and talk about whether hearing aids could help you. The assessment takes approximately 1 hour.
If you need hearing aids, the Audiologist will then go through the many options and decide with you which type suits you best. A hearing aid fitting appointment will be organised and you are on your way to better hearing. The hearing aid fitting appointment takes approximately 1 hour and occurs about 2 weeks after your initial assessment. Once fitted with your aids, you will have a follow-up appointment a further 2 weeks later to see how you are going. Further follow-up appointments are then organised as they are needed. If you are not satisfied with your hearing aids, you can return them within the first 30 days for a refund.
After you are set up with your aids, we recommend an annual review to assess your hearing and adjust your hearing aids for any deterioration in hearing. Throughout the year, you will often need to come into the clinic for us to service your hearing aids and to collect consumables. The lifetime of all hearing aids is approximately 5 years.
Children
Our Audiologists make every effort to ensure children enjoy the experience of having their hearing checked.
We test hearing for children over 4 years. Children’s hearing assessments involve firstly responding to a series of beeps and then repeating words so we can assess if their hearing is adequate for normal speech, language and educational development. The test is modified to cater to children of different ages and concentration abilities. We also check for middle ear fluid and congestion which is common in younger children and can significantly affect speech and learning.
At the conclusion of the assessment, results are explained to parents/carers and in consultation with them, results are reported back to the doctor and any other relevant health professionals (e.g. speech pathologist). Children requiring hearing aids are referred to Hearing Australia which is the government owned agency funded to manage children with permanent hearing loss. The assessment takes approximately 45 minutes.
